The cast and UK tour of Philip Pullman’s I Was A Rat! has been announced. Opening as part of The REP’s centenary season at The Old Rep Theatre on 12 February 2013 the show will then tour to Ipswich, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bury St Edmunds, Cornwall, Cambridge, Salford, Exeter, Leeds and Hereford.
Leading the cast as Roger is young actor Fox Jackson-Keen. Fox made his debut on the professional stage in 2008 at the tender age of 13 in the lead role of Billy in Billy Elliot the Musical. He was the first Londoner to play the role and appeared in over 200 performances of the award-winning musical.
Tyrone Huggins and Lorna Gayle play Bob and Joan respectively. A leading UK actor, Tyrone has performed in over 70 theatre productions at many of the UK’s leading theatres, including The David Hare Trilogy (National Theatre), Noughts & Crosses (RSC), Of Mice And Men (Birmingham Repertory Theatre) and the world premiere of Wole Soyinka’s The Beatification of Area Boy (West Yorkshire Playhouse). His film appearances include Run Fat Boy Run (RFBR Ltd). Lorna Gayle’s theatre credits include Nation (National Theatre), Sugar Mummies (Royal Court), The Crucible (RSC). TV and film credits include Stephen Poliakoff’s Dancing on the Edge (BBC), The Dark Knight (Warner Bros) and Fallout (Channel 4).
The ensemble is completed by Christopher Dingli, Joey Hickman, TJ Holmes, Jack Jones and Dodger Phillips.
I Was A Rat! is adapted and directed by Teresa Ludovico, English version by David Watson, design and lighting by Vincent Longuemare, costume design by Luigi Spezzacatene, music by Frank Moon (recorded by The Destroyers and played live by the company) and sound design by Dan Hoole. It is a Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company production in association with Nottingham Playhouse, The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich and Teatro Kismet, Bari, Italy.
